What is holding you back?

holding you backWe all think there are so many things holding us back. We think that we don’t have enough time. We aren’t sure where to start? We are afraid of what others might think? What will the others say? We aren’t sure if we can do it or not? What happens if I fail? I don’t have access to a top of the line gym, so I can’t compete with people who do.
Maybe you haven’t said these things out loud. But I bet all of you have at least thought them at some point. I bet all of you were embarrassed to do something a little different because of what someone else might think. I bet you have said, “I don’t have time to workout today”.
Ready for the answer to what is really holding you back?

YOU.
It’s time to stop the excuses.

You don’t have enough time
Unlikely! Have you watched TV or used your laptop, iphone, or ipad? Have you watched a movie or a TV show lately? I bet you have! Turn off the TV, get off the internet, log-off Facebook, get-off Twitter. Use that time to work on your game.

Don’t have access to a good gym
There are stories and stories of players who are in the NBA that didn’t have access to a good court. They always found a way. They did ball-handling drills in the basement, they ran, walked, or rode their bike to a park to play. If it was raining, they played. If the court was covered in snow, they shoveled it. They played on dirt courts, gravel courts. They played on hoops with bent rims, or hoops that were higher than 10 feet, or hoops without nets. Re-think your excuses…is there really nowhere to practice?

What will others think?
So you are doing a WOH warm-up or workout, and it is a little different than what everyone is doing. You start worrying about what others will think. STOP! People who make fun of you for working hard probably aren’t very good friends, and chances are, they aren’t going to be very successful. If teammates make fun of you, they are probably jealous that they don’t have your work ethic. Be a good teammate and invite them to join you in the workout. Tell them to head to The World of Hoops and check out the site. Tell them you want them to get really good to so your team is unstoppable.

Take control, become a great player. Don’t let silly things be your excuses.
